First look: Cockroaches by Jo Nesbo

cockroachesphotoWhen Cockroaches is published on 28 November here in the UK, all 10 Harry Hole novels will be available in English. And, sadly, that probably won’t be enough for fans of Jo Nesbo, who can’t seem to get enough of the Norwegian author and his dark, dreamlike murder mysteries.

Cockroaches was the second Harry Hole novel written in Norwegian, following the Bat, but it’s the last one to be translated. The hardback has just arrived here at CFL HQ. We didn’t think it was fair to keep it a secret from you so above you can see the book in all it’s glory, with the gold and black embossing on the title and author’s name, and the blood-red monochrome running through the faded photo.

The story takes place in Bangkok, where the Norwegian ambassador has been found dead in a seedy hotel room. Someone who probably doesn’t know Harry Hole very well has sent him out there to investigate the case with minimal scandal. Secrets are being kept, there’s incriminating video evidence, but the man who’s given this to Harry Hole has gone missing. It runs much deeper than a straightforward murder case…
